Metal stamping (also known as stamping) is the process of stamping sheet metal in the form of a blank or roll, in which the surface of the stamping mould is usually heat treated to increase its hardness. Stamping includes all kinds of sheet metal stamping, such as stamping, punching, embossing, bending, flanging and embossing using presses or hydraulic presses. Lubricants also protect sheet metal and finished stamping parts from the same surface wear and promote the flow of elastomeric materials to prevent cracks, tears or wrinkles. A variety of lubricants are available for this task. They include plant and mineral oil substrates, animal fat or lard, graphite substrates, soap and acrylic dry film substrates.
